- Joining the official Fashion Designers Team of Miss Europe Continental is a significant professional achievement. What was your first reaction when you received this opportunity?
The initial reaction was that of shock and disbelief. As a very young and not very well known brand, we always thought this type of opportunity only came to established names. It’s definitely an honor to be a part of something this exciting!
- If you had to describe your style in three words, which would you choose and why?
Dark, elegant, mysterious. This summarizes my favorite kind of fairytale, and it’s the main source of my inspiration when designing pieces.
- What is the most unusual source of inspiration that has influenced one of your creations?
The Carolina Dogwood. This is the state flower of North Carolina, where we have called home for about five years. I handpainted them on an avant garde suit jacket using acrylic paint, as a dedication to a state in the US where I feel most at home.
- Is there a garment or collection that you consider the true expression of your creative identity?
Our “Morticia” dress, which embodies the spirit of the brand, both visually, and as our message and story.
- What message do you hope to communicate through your designs?
It’s okay to be different, to stand out, and to be misunderstood. Our core beliefs are that of authenticity and individuality. Confidence in one’s self is always better than following whatever is “hot” at the moment. Trends are what’s in the moment, while authenticity is timeless.
- How do you think this international experience can contribute to your professional growth?
This international experience is a rare opportunity to introduce our brand of American Alt Fashion to the masses. There are already whispers of our brand in Europe, and there are already those who appreciate our style and aesthetic. This will be the ultimate test to see whether there is a bigger audience out there for Snarkeez. We are also open to collaborations and business ventures with anyone who shares our style and vision.
