Hello! My name is Fany Mejia and I am proud to represent Belize in the Miss Europe Continental pageant. I am a registered nurse with a passion for health and wellness, and I dedicate myself to improving the lives of others through medical missions and wellness.
How would you describe yourself as a person with three adjectives?Â
Adventurous, Resilient and Empathetic
My adventurous spirit drives me to seek new experiences and embrace challenges; whether that’s volunteering in unfamiliar communities or stepping onto international stages. I thrive on exploring new cultures and pushing myself outside my comfort zone, believing that growth often comes from daring to try something new.
Resilience is a quality I’ve cultivated through adversity. Life has presented moments that tested my strength, but I’ve learned to persevere and rise above setbacks. Each challenge has taught me the value of persistence and getting back up even after it felt like I wouldn’t be able to overcome.
Empathy is at the heart of who I am. As a nurse and a volunteer, I am deeply committed to understanding and caring for others. I strive to listen, connect, and support people from all walks of life, believing that compassion can create meaningful change. These three qualities: adventurous, resilient, and empathetic; define not only how I approach my work but also how I interact with the world and those around me.
What does fashion represent to you?
To me, fashion is deeply personal. It’s the story of who I am and who I’ve always dreamed of becoming.
Ever since I was a little girl watching Nuestra Belleza Latina, I was captivated by the gowns; the elegance, the movement, the way a dress could transform a woman into art. I fell so in love with it that I even took sewing lessons and created my own pieces, including my very first prom dress.
Today, it continues to be my way of moving through the world with confidence and intention. If you know me, you know I practically live in dresses; they bring out my soft, feminine side. But fashion also gives me the freedom to explore every side of myself. One day I can feel like a princess in something flowy and delicate, and the next I can be bold in jeans, boots, a leather jacket, or even a cowboy hat if I’m feeling adventurous. It’s also a tool of empowerment. When I choose what I wear, I’m choosing how I show up in the world; strong, feminine, bold, soft, elegant or all the above.
It allows me to honor every version of myself and express my identity in a way words sometimes can’t. It’s a celebration of who I am in each moment.
Is there a moment in your life that has particularly marked you?
One moment that has particularly marked me was my first experience volunteering on a medical mission. I remember visiting a small, underserved community where access to healthcare was extremely limited. Seeing the impact even a small team of medical professionals could make on people’s lives was incredibly moving.
That experience taught me the true value of service, empathy, and using my skills to help others. It also solidified my commitment to healthcare and giving back. My parents emigrated from Honduras to Belize, which is where they met and where I was born. I was fortunate to attend school and become the first in my family to graduate from college. That milestone reminded me of the opportunities afforded to me by their sacrifices and inspired me to strive forward. As I looked into the crowd, my heart ached for the people I was serving, and I realized how different my life might have been if my parents hadn’t made those sacrifices. Their journey motivates me to represent my country with pride and use my platform to make a positive difference in society.
In my early adulthood, I went through a very dark and challenging period; one that tested my strength, my confidence, and my sense of self-worth. During that time, I came to the reality that evil exists, and that no matter how much kindness or loyalty you pour from your heart, it doesn’t always mean you’ll receive the same in return.
For a while, I stepped away from my passions and even from the dreams that once made me come alive. But overcoming that season became one of the most powerful turning points in my life. It taught me courage, self-respect, and the importance of choosing myself, even when it’s difficult.
That moment didn’t break me; it built me.
It reminded me that resilience is not about never falling; it’s about rising with intention, grace, and a stronger understanding of who you are.
Today, I stand here grounded in my worth, committed to my purpose, and grateful for the lessons that allowed me to grow into a more confident, compassionate, and empowered version of myself.
Once I found the strength to move forward, I began to dream again. When I learned that Miss Universe had lifted its restrictions for mothers, I felt a calling–like God was opening a door for me to participate. Though I was initially reluctant and didn’t feel ready; I applied, was selected as a delegate, and became one of the first mothers to participate in Miss Universe Belize.
Participating in Miss Universe Belize after that experience was a defining moment, as I stepped fully into my confidence, challenged myself on a national stage, and made history. These experiences have shaped me into a resilient and determined woman, ready to represent Belize proudly on the international stage at Miss Europe Continental.
What do you expect to gain from the experience of Miss Europe Continental?
I expect to gain so much more than just the experience of being on an international stage. Through Miss Europe Continental, I want to grow personally and professionally while also creating lifelong friendships with women from across the world.
What excites me most is the honor of being the very first delegate from Belize. This opportunity will allow me to showcase my country on the international stage; to let Europe know about Belize’s rich culture, vibrant traditions, warm people, beautiful landscapes, and of course, our unique cuisine. Representing my country is about carrying a piece of Belize with me and sharing it with the world.
This journey is about more than a crown; it’s about having a platform to share my passion for medical missions. It will challenge me to step outside my comfort zone, refine my skills, and inspire others. Especially young women from humble backgrounds, I hope to inspire them to chase their dreams while making a positive impact in their communities.
What advice would you like to share with other participants?
The advice I would give to the other participants is to stay true to who you are.
In pageantry, it’s easy to compare yourself or feel pressured to fit a standard, but the most powerful thing you can bring to the stage is your authentic self. On a day-to-day basis, I barely wear makeup, and I used to feel a little discouraged because creating those big, elaborate makeup looks has never been my strength. But this journey has taught me to embrace my natural beauty and focus on what makes me feel confident.
For me, that means prioritizing good skincare, keeping my makeup soft and simple, and enhancing (not hiding) who I am.
I would also encourage them to enjoy the journey. These experiences go by quickly, but the friendships, the personal growth, and the confidence you gain last far beyond competition day. Show up with gratitude, and be kind.
And most importantly, remember that your worth is not defined by a crown.
Use this platform to elevate your voice, your mission, and the message you want to share with the world. A confident woman centered in her purpose shines in any room she walks into, and that is something no one can take away.
